What Is A Notary Public Anyhow?

In days past, Notaries Public were some of the toughest, most brutally honest individuals, weilding very  pointy writing instuments and witnessing nearly illegible signatures while always remaining brave and impartial--- even when subjected to sworn statements and other swearing.  What heros!

A little colorful, but kind of right.  Actually, a Notary Public is a person of proven integrity who plays a key roll in our society, essentially idenitifying persons, administering oaths, and witnessing signatures on documents.  Of course there's more to it than that.  Specialized on-going training is required, a background check, a Bond, insurance, and certain "tools of the trade"--- including those very pointy writing instruments!
